On Wednesday 21st February I was fortunate enough to take part in the Young Carers Festival at Monmouth Leisure Centre.
Monmouthshire Crossroads ‘Caring for Carers’ is a Young Carers Project that supports children and young people between 8 – 18 years who have responsibilities caring for sick or disabled relatives at home.
The basic aim of the festival was to get young carers together from all over South Wales so they could have some fun, a chance to just be children, act their age and just generally chill out away from their normal more pressured home environments. It was an opportunity for the young carers to experience many new, one of which was dance.
I was privileged enough to be asked to take 2 dance sessions for the carers which was most enjoyable. I met may carers throughout the day and they seemed to have a really good time taking part in with various events including crafts, sports, hair and beauty, face painting, magicians, dance and a cartoonist drawing their pictures. All in all it was a a superbly organised event and a great success which I personally enjoyed immensely.
Thank you very much to the organisers and sponsors for a most enjoyable event.
